Summer Bugs

I thought I would share with you a fun and easy craft that the kids can do. This one has kept The Little Man entertained for quite a while, and he had so much fun making it!

Summer Bugs, or you can call them whatever you want. We had a friend come make one with us, and she called it both a butterfly and a bird...I guess they change species over an hour!

All you need is empty cans of any kind, paint, stickers, a hole punch (I used my crop-a-dile because it can punch thru metal like it's butter), pipe cleaners, and some string.
We used all sorts of cans. Pringles, soup, baby formula, and even small tomato sauce cans!

Start by painting your cans (or you can leave them their original color). Then give your kids a handful of stickers and let them go to town decorating their "bugs". We had flowers, spots, bugs, and so much more, but both kiddos chose to use bunnies!

(wow, don't they look like they could be siblings?!)

Once they have decorated their bugs, punch 2 holes, one in each side of the can, about an inch down. Then stick both ends of a pipe cleaner thru one of the holes, twist together and then open the ends to keep the wings from falling back out of the hold. Repeat on the other side.

Then punch 2 more holes right at the edge of the can for the string. Thread it thru the holes and tie a knot at the end. This can be used to hang your bugs or make them fly as you see The Little Man loved to do!

These are such a hit, and one is currently hanging in the tree for the night (The Little Man "tucked it in" before coming inside!)

    1. Kathy, that's my goal in life...is that sad? It's a great day when I can wear them both out enough for naps and a decent nap time!
